About our antiques

Objects with a past, selected for their character.

BeLocal Collection sources antique and vintage Japanese objects from across Japan. The selection covers a wide range — ceramics, fans, tea sets, cutlery, keychains, and items from daily life that are no longer in production.

We do not always know the full provenance of every piece. With antiques that is often the nature of things. What we commit to is being honest about what we know, what we do not, and what makes each item worth considering.

Stock changes regularly. There is no catalogue and no fixed inventory online. The best way to see what is in is to visit the store. That is also, often, the better experience.

How we select

What we look for.

01

Condition and character

Items are selected for their condition and individual character. We look for pieces that still have something to say — not just age.

02

Something to explain

We try to carry things we can say something honest about — what it was made for, what period it comes from, what gives it its particular look.

03

Usable or displayable

We prefer objects that can still be used, or at least experienced properly. We are less interested in objects that exist only to be looked at from a distance.
